PT Factory Pertamina International (KPI) Plaju Unit located on the river of the Mali Kota Palembang, South Sumatra, is the oldest oil refinery in Tanah Air. In more than 100 years old or one century more to 2024, this factory is still operating well.
Plaju Factory was established by the Shell company from the Netherlands in 1904. While Gerong River Factory, which stands separated the Komering River next to the South of Plaju refineries, founded in 1926 by Stanvac, American origin company.
In the factory various types of fuel oil for motor vehicles on the ground, ships, and air aircraft. Plaju factory has processing capacity reaching 126 thousand bareel per day. The product is intended to meet 60 percent of the needs of energy in the southern Sumatra region (Sumbagsel).

Various oil fuel products (BBM) and special fuel (BBK) as well as other derivative products are processed there namely Pertalite, Solar, Biosolar B35, Avtur, Dexlite, to Marine Fuel Oil (MFO) Low Sulphur.
In addition to producing Fuel Oil (BBM) and other intermediate products, Plaju Factory also produce Polytam plastic seeds produced by Polypropylene Unit. Polytam is a raw material for manufacturing plastic bags commonly used in food and beverage packaging industries.
Polypropylene Unit Plaju Factory was first established in 1972. In this factory is produced plastic seeds with trademark ‘Polytam’, acronym of Polypropylene Pertamina with an average production every month reaches 4,000 tons of plastic seeds. In 2023 total production of plastic seeds of 42,000 tons while until October 2024 has reached 41.000 tons of production targets set by 49.000 tons.

The Polypropylene Unit of Plaju Factory itself consists of three process units namely purification, polymerization, and pelletizing, with raw material supply in form of propylene propane from FCCU (Fluid Catalytic Cracking Unit) Sungai Gerong factory. Polytam products are produced through Polymerization Reaction, which is the incorporation between propylene, Catalyst, Hexane and H2 that occurs in Reaktor system to produce powder homopolymer.
The Polypropylene Factory Plaju unit also has a robotic bagging machine that helps packaging process, where Polytam products are packed with a capacity of 25Kg, and distributed to marketing units throughout Indonesia such as Medan, Palembang, Jakarta, Bandung, Semarang and Surabaya.
Quality Polytam produced in Plaju Factory itself has met several aspects of standardization, e.g. Certification of IMS ISO 14001:2015 RU III, Certification of QMS ISO 9001:2015 RU III, Certification for health and Safety at work ISO 45001 : 2018 RU III and Certification of National Accreditation Committee KAN ISO/IEC 17025:2005 Refinery Laboratory.
Polytam produced can also be ensured with Certification of ISO Integration & Halal Polytam grade A from MUI, Food Grade Certification from Large Ceramic Hall (BBK) Industrial Ministry, and Improvement Color Quality Polytam for high grade product.
